Why Italian sucks...

I just need to vent a bit about the italian language. I have this class eight hours a week and I'm finding it harder and harder to retain information and understand what my teacher is saying. (Did I mention that my INTRODUCTORY italian teacher likes to speak almost only italian. Not easy.) I have my first quiz tomorrow so maybe explaining why the language sucks will help me study??

The alphabet: first of all, there are only 21 letters in the alphabet. They don't have the letters J, K, W, X, or Y. (my name has three of those letters, clearly I'm foreign.)

Pronunciation:
CI - (chee) CE - (cheh)
CHI - (key) CHE - (kay)
GI - (jee) GE - (jay)
GHI - (gee) GHE - (gay)
SCI - (shee) SCE - (shay)

GN - (ny) as in the spanish was for bathroom: "baño", its "bagno" in italian, pronounced the same.
GL - (y) for example, "foglia" which means leaf is pronounced "foy-yah"

also, ALL "h"s are silent.

and they call this language a phonetic language? bologna.
(pronounced "baloney" in the US, pronounced "boh-lone-yah" here.)

also, "é" means "he/she/it is" and "e" means "and"

There's also a structure for verbs, and how they change for "I", "you", "he/she/it", "we", "you all", and "they", but yet there are 'irregular' verbs that change a totally different way and you just 'have to know what they are'. there's no rhyme or reason. stupid italian.
